The FatSecret Platform API
After more than 7 years of combining the best diet and nutrition tools with a super supportive community, we thought it’s time to share some more information on our FatSecret Platform API, that launched back in 2010.
Before we get there though, what actually are we trying to do at FatSecret?
At FatSecret, our mission is to inspire people to eat healthier.
At FatSecret, we believe that the modern app, device and wearable user requires a seamless, high quality experience when interacting with health and fitness data.
At FatSecret, we aim to build the highest quality diet and nutrition tools that make a lasting impact in people’s lives.
At FatSecret, we know that dietary intake plays a key role in a person’s overall health.
And that’s where we strive to help.
Apart from running the FatSecret calorie counting apps and localized websites with nearly 30 million users, FatSecret is also the largest source of food and nutrition data globally for integrated mobile devices/wearables and mobile apps/web services through the FatSecret Platform API.
Released in January 2010, the API provides the most accurate and complete food and nutrition databases available, covering all generic foods, packaged products and restaurant items. Since then the API has expanded to cover 19 languages and 35 distinct countries and we’ve seen the number of API calls grow exponentially, to over 200 million in January 2014 alone.
Over 5,000 developers utilize the API already and today, we power some of the largest apps/web services out there that offer personalized health and wellness solutions, including prominent fitness tracking devices/wearables.
The API has enjoyed such tremendous growth because we understand that API users want to give their customers a seamless high quality experience, and that’s what the API delivers. The API utilizes search technology to ensure that the right food information is quickly surfaced and also incorporates auto-complete, barcode scanning, activity tracking, meal and recipe planning as well as other great features across all languages and geographies (or from São Paulo to Seoul as we like to say!).
That’s just an overview of the API. If you’d like to learn more please reach out. We continue to invest in highly scalable infrastructure to support the growth of the FatSecret Platform API and will continue innovating to ensure accurate food and nutrition data is accessible for everyone.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
